DJ NICKCHEO opens for William Black at UC San Diego on October 11, 2024. As the Marketing Director of UCSD’s AS Concerts and Events, I had the opportunity to chat with NICKCHEO, an Asian American DJ, for Rice & Spice Magazine, a magazine highlighting Asian Americans in entertainment.
Rising to fame on TikTok for his unconventional mixes, blending artists such as Faye Webster and Playboi Carti, Nick’s genre-defying sound quickly captured the attention of Gen Z. Amassing over 500,000 followers, he often calls himself “just a kid from Ohio”, bringing his sound to shows in New York and collaborating with other DJ’s such as DJ Mandy. This interview explores Nick’s themes of Ohio and friendship through the lens of music.
